Philippines: Among the Largest Consumer Markets for ICT - Zpryme

Austin, TX - (ZPRYME NEWS) 09/10/08 – Consumer market of the Philippines changes as fast as its political climate changes.  Nevertheless, there seem to be a continued and growing consumer market for technology related items which most Filipinos are deemed consumer targets.

Inquirer on “Dell enters RP consumer market”, reported that Dell computer entered the consumer market of the Philippines with a showcase of new desktops and notebooks. At present, Dell maintains operations in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.  In the coming of its operations in the Philippines, Dell expects to rollout products such as computer peripherals, LCD screens and combo printers. Also, among those that are expected to entertain the consumer market of the Philippines is the coming of the Dell netbook, a notebook that is definitely lighter, but which is able to provide the same wireless Internet platform.

The Philippine consumer market is among the largest markets in notebook sales and is one of the reasons why American and Asian computer companies eye on the market for increased sales. Among the innovations made particularly to address consumer demands is to make these notebooks more stylish and more vibrant looking through the introduction of notebooks that come in sunshine yellow, flamingo pink and espresso brown.  The notebooks of Dell range from 33, 000 – 85,000 while the desktops range from 33,000 to 67, 000.

Retail market of the Philippines would not also be complete without mentioning one of the strongest trading partners of the Philippines, Japan.  In a report, “Prosperous partnership continues to grow”, it was reported that in the 35 largest corporate frontlines of the Philippines, 5 of which are Japanese subsidiaries.  Among these are brands that have already been part of Philippine consumer market such as Fujitsu Computer Products, Hitachi Global Storage, Panasonic Communications, Toshiba Information Equipment and Toyota Motor. Likewise, Japan has stakes large companies like the Ayala Group of Companies.

At present, Japan and other information technology companies look at Philippines market potential for consumer products related to ICT.
